Ross failed to build on last weeks win, losing out to a
committed and fluent Bristolians outfit and with Brockworth
gaining a losing bonus point found themselves back in the
relegation zone on points difference. This sets up a nervy
end of season run in but with three home games still to
play, Ross will be confident of finding the win that will
put them clear of relegation.
The
Bristolians were far more fluent and cohesive from the off
with backs and forwards linking well. This put the Ross
defence on the back foot and after a number of well controlled
phases the visitors scored out on the left to put them 7-0
ahead after 5 minutes. From such a bad start, Ross did work
themselves into the game, with both Chris Price and Gavin
Oates showing well in defence and with ball in hand. However,
the Bristolians defence held solid. Some half breaks from
Gareth Holdsworth, then Chay Brine, gave Ross confidence
but they could not find that killer pass and with half time
looming it was the visitors who added to their tally with
another converted try putting them 14-0 ahead at the break.
For
Ross to get back in the game it was crucial they were the
first to score in the 2nd half. Again some good work from
Sam Griffiths, then Huw Bellamy, created half chances but
once again they could not find that scoring pass. The Bristolians
absorbed the early pressure and just on the hour mark, killed
off the game with another converted try to put them 21-0
ahead.
Ross
did not give up and continued to work hard and were rewarded
with a score. Scrum half, Craig Powell broke quickly from
a ruck before passing to Gareth Holdsworth. Gareth cut through
the defence before putting a well timed inside pass to Adam
Clements, who barged his way through two tackles to score,
putting Ross 21-5 behind. Some late strong running from
Mike Davies and Casey Morgan saw Ross continue to work hard
until the final whistle but the visitors' defence held firm
and the final score was 21-5 to the Bristolians.
The
GMP Software Design man of the match was Michael Brine.
Next
Saturday, 26th February, Ross are back in league action
at Wilton Sports Ground against home to Frampton Cotterell.
Kick off is at 2:30pm.
