The Ross Pancake Day Races were such a great success last
year, that the Association of Ross Traders, (ART) decided
to repeat the event this year and lots of local shop keepers,
business people, members of the public and their children
signed up to join in the fun.
The
races on Tuesday began at 2:30pm with various races taking
place, all of which were started by Ross Town Mayor, Councillor
Jo Lane. The first race was the Retailers sprint, which
was won by Richard Mayo of Truffles. This race was snippily
followed by the Hairdressers’ sprint, then the Café sprint.
Negotiating the course up Broad Street next were the Estate
Agents, followed by Motability, who all scooted up to the
finishing line with frying pans and pancakes intact.
The
Men’s sprint was well subscribed but the ladies had to run
two heats. Next came the Charity Shop sprint, the Open Relay
then the Pubs & Hotels’ Relay. Unlike last year, Shrove
Tuesday didn't fall in half term so the children's races
were held back until after school hours so that the children
didn't miss out on what turned out to be yet another really
fun day for Ross-on-Wye.
As
well as the races, there was a prize for the 'Best Pinny,'
which was won by Paula Wade.
Many
thanks to Norman Bricknell for sending in some of his photographs
of the event. See also the Ross
Pancake Races page.
