The 'One
Day Wonders' are a 'side' of morris dancers who meet on one
day of the year only
and spend the day touring a specific part of England, chosen
by the 'Squire' for the year. The team members are from various
parts of England, with one member who now lives in the USA making
the journey to take part. Following a three hour practise after
meeting up, the same six traditional dances are performed at
all venues. This year's dances took place in and around our
area, beginning at the Malt Shovel, Ruardean and finishing with
a sing-around and musical evening there, visiting various venues
throughout the day.
The
weather was unfortunately not particularly good for the day
but those who saw it certainly enjoyed the event. Asked whether
they had a good day themselves, one of the morris men said,
'
We had a terrible time - dragged from pub to pub and forced
to drink beer...'
The
photographs below were taken at the following venues: Goodrich
Castle, Wilton Court Hotel - Ross, Hellens Manor - Much Marcle,
The Market House, Ross and The Malt Shovel Ruardean. Other venues
for the day which I was unable to photograph due to other commitments
included: The Moody Cow - Crow Hill, The Green Man - Fownhope
and The Walwyn Arms - Much Marcle.
