I have lived in Ross-on-Wye since 3rd April 1976 and can still remember that night, standing in the garden of the house I bought in Cawdor, looking over the town with the feeling that I was on holiday but with a big difference - it wasn't just for two weeks. I was 22 years old at that time and lots of things have changed since then. I have travelled a bit seeing four of the world's continents, had three wonderful, if sometimes troublesome children and given up my 'secure' but boring office career, eventually following my long time ambition of working for myself and building this web site. Ross-on-Wye has changed too. Supermarkets have put paid to many of the small shops in town, estates have sprung up seemingly overnight in areas which were once green and the word 'walk' was deleted from the form given to parents to find out how their children will be making their daily journey to school. |

Sadly, fewer stars are visible at night these days due to pollution from neon lights but on the whole though the town remains much the same and I guess that if 'progress' didn't take place we would still be troglodytes out hunting with flint axes. My move from East London to Ross all those years ago is one I have not regretted for a moment. As I enjoy reading the books of Fred Druce as well as other local authors and collectors of archive photographs, I am currently trying to take the photographs that people one hundred years from now will look at to see how life was at the beginning of the millennium. Since the spring of 2000 I have taken many thousands of photographs of Ross and the Wye Valley and I plan to continue with this interest as long as I am able. This web site shows just some of them and I hope you find them interesting. The purpose behind these 'personal' pages however is for my other personal interests. |
