Portland House Guest House is an impressive 17th century building situated very near to the border between England and Wales. Proprietors Jenny and John Jarvis have been refurbishing and restoring this beautiful house to an excellent standard of award winning accommodation. They have received a four star award from the AA and a level M2 accessibility for the disabled award from the English Tourism Council. Jenny has also received a Green Business Award and Wildlife Action Award from Herefordshire Nature Trust, which was presented to her in June 2005 by Professor David Bellamy.

Portland House is ideally situated halfway between the ancient town of Monmouth and the historic market town of Ross-on-Wye, both of which are well worth visiting. Symonds Yat is just three miles away, so you are never very far from interesting places to visit, or activities to take part in, such as cycling, walking or canoeing. Portland House also has its own activities to offer. Why not book yourself and a group of friends onto a Murder Mystery break, for instance? Or if you prefer something a little more relaxing or artistic, Painting breaks are also available.

The superb accommodation at Portland House consists of six en-suite bedrooms, comprising three double rooms, one twin room, a large double roomed family suite and a generously sized single room. The Lloyd Suite, which is situated on the ground floor has been specially designed to accommodate wheelchair users and people with limited mobility. There is both a double and single bed, along with easy chairs for watching television. There is also a small conservatory leading from the bedroom, overlooking the garden, making this a great place to relax.

Jenny and John offer guests the use of a very comfortable and spacious lounge in which to relax, watch television or maybe enjoy a game of chess and the large, elegantly furnished dining room is the perfect place to enjoy your evening meal. (Please advise in advance if this is required). Private dinner parties can also be catered for.
