Site Statistics January 2004

For those who are interested in playing the numbers game, below are the Wyenot.com monthly visitor statistics for January 2004 as taken directly from my server log. As you can see, there were 101,720 'hits' on the site during the month, and January is the 'quiet' month. All the same, taking the low month of January's figures alone, this so far makes for a current predicted average of one million, two hundred and twenty thousand, six hundred and forty 'hits' on www.wyenot.com for the year of 2004. (The 2003 figure actually approached two million). Bearing in mind the Pidgin Latin phrase, 'excreta bovae cerebro mystificum' (bullshit baffles brains) this information could easily be used as front page boasting material. Life has taught me however that 'excreta bovae cerebro mystificum' can eventually lead one, 'up the creek without a paddle,' so I would rather just point out that during January 2004, nineteen thousand, two hundred and fifteen pages of this web site were viewed and that the top three most visited pages were, the 'Photographic Street Map', followed closely by 'Accommodation' and then the 'Site Map' pages. Also worth noting is that well over a million kilobytes of data was downloaded from the site during the month. I think the trendy internet term for this is 'stickiness,' meaning that visitors tend to stay once they have arrived. And my dad's bigger than your dad :-) See [January 2004] [February 2004] [March 2004] [April] [May] Statistics. |

The definition of a 'hit' on a web site is anything which generates a line on the server log. The term 'hit' includes visits by the search engine robots as well as those other extremely annoying web crawlers which search the internet for email addresses on which to inflict spam, people trying to gain access to private areas of the server (see Code 403 - Forbidden) etc. etc. etc. Absolutely everything and anything. A good term to use if you intend to 'wow' Joe Public with incredible figures (bullshit) but of little further practical use. A 'page view' (see total pages) is a page which has been purposefully downloaded and looked at, by a proper human visitor. A 'visitor' (see total visits) is one person who may have made several page views. The latter two are what really count and are what can be used to determine the 'stickiness' of a web site (a measure of whether the visitor finds the site dull, or not what they are looking for and goes off elsewhere, or whether he / she finds it interesting and stays for long periods of time and returns often.) Quod Erat Demonstrandum. |
