Site Statistics May 2004
The tables below show some of the May 2004 visitor statistics for www.wyenot.com as taken directly from the server log, plus the year so far for certain categories. In order to cut through the bullshit which is often used by site owners to attract sponsors, I have decided to make my visitor statistics available for public viewing on a monthly basis, soon after the end of each month, with earlier months still available to view (see [January 2004] [February 2004] [March 2004] [April] [May] statistics). An explanation of the figures can be found below the charts. During May 2004, my server log file was actually too large for the statistics analysis program I use to cope with. It swore at me in fluent binary and, despite my retaliation in Anglo Saxon and threat of tweaking its machine code with a 14 pound hammer, it gave up the ghost, so the figures below reflect only a portion of the month and are now showing an under calculation of the true visitor statistics. Rather than guess it though, (or spend the rest of the year calculating it manually) I have put up the figures for the portion of the month that it was able to analyse. |

The definition of a 'hit' on a web site is anything which generates a line on the server log. The term 'hit' includes visits by the search engine robots as well as those other extremely annoying web crawlers which search the internet for email addresses on which to inflict spam etc. etc. etc. Absolutely everything and anything. A good term to use if you intend to 'wow' Joe Public with incredible figures (bullshit) but of little further practical use. A 'page view' (see total pages) is a page which has been purposefully downloaded and looked at, by a proper human visitor. A 'visitor' (see total visits) is one person who may have made several page views. The latter two are what really count and are what can be used to determine the 'stickiness' of a web site (a measure of whether the visitor finds the site dull, or not what they are looking for and goes off elsewhere, or whether he / she finds it interesting and stays for long periods of time and returns often.) Quod Erat Demonstrandum. |
