The place for information on Ross-on-Wye and the Wye Valley

With the end of the main tourist season now upon us, September shows the expected drop in visitors to Wyenot.com searching for touristy things, though I am pleased to note that the 'Accommodation' page is still the second most visited page on the web site. I am also extremely pleased that the month of September in 2004 showed a site unique visitor increase of over 100% as compared to September 2003 and that people are still adding the site to their 'Favourites'.

The 'Local News' page so far appears to be very successful, although rather than decrease the amount of work I have to put into maintaining the web site as I had thought might be the case, it seems to have doubled my workload and I now find Mondays particularly stressful. This is because I don't just copy the local newspaper, I report the news myself. This is very worthwhile though if it keeps the site interesting for viewers. The web site is finding its way into the general media more and more also. Within the past month, Independent Television have telephoned me four times on three different matters as a direct result of programme makers looking up information about Ross-on-Wye and the Wye Valley on my web site.

One thing I do note is that copyright theft from the web site has increased tremendously over recent months. This is extremely upsetting for me personally as the work I put into making this web site goes far beyond that which people see or imagine. Virtually every day of the year, I begin work at 7:00 am and don't finish until virtually midnight. Contrary to popular belief, this web site is not not run by a huge organization making me a fortune - it is a single handed affair which is helping the town of Ross-on-Wye whilst I struggle to find ways of getting the financial support I need to feed my family whilst keeping it going. As winter and the Christmas card producing season fast approaches, I note that one of the most popular Google searches bringing people to the web site at the moment is 'photographs of ross on wye winter scenes'. Please, if you intend to make Christmas cards, do all of the work yourself and do not steal my photographs. I have so far resisted putting my copyright notice right across the centre of photographs as this spoils the look but sadly I am having to rethink that strategy for the future and have changed most of the winter scenes to include this as I cannot afford to give away any profits from my photography.
