The
place for information on Ross-on-Wye and the Wye Valley
SYMONDS
YAT - ROSS-ON-WYE, HEREFORDSHIRE
1
The
beautiful villages of Symonds Yat East and West, Ross-on-Wye,
Herefordshire
are two of the most well known in the Wye
Valley. Approximately six miles from the town of Ross-on-Wye,
the villages are a hive of activity and a popular spot for taking
forest walks, canoeing,
fishing,
taking
a cruise along the River Wye or enjoying a cream
tea. There is a traditional rope ferry, which is moored at
the Saracen's Head Inn and crosses the river regularly, taking
passengers between the two villages. As well as being a pleasurable
experience, this short crossing saves a five mile journey by road.
At
500 feet above sea level, Yat
Rock lies above the villages of Symonds Yat East and West
affording spectacular views of the river and surrounding countryside.
For bird watchers, Yat Rock is a popular place for sighting the
Peregrine Falcon during summer months. Historic Goodrich
Castle is also very close and is one of the many attractions
open to visitors locally and King
Arthur's Cave is well worth a visit.
Whether
you are looking for peace and tranquillity, beautiful scenery,
a river
cruise or other activity, with great country pubs, such as
the Saracen's
Head or Wye
Knot Inn and a wide variety of accommodation
to choose from, Symonds Yat is the ideal place to take either
a holiday or a short break.
The
film comprises 2000 still images, taken on Saturday, 14th
March and both days on the following weekend, set to music.
Even
though it is quite funny to watch, I hope the natural
beauty of the whole Symonds Yat area comes across.
If
you have a fast computer and internet connection, the
film is best watched full screen in HD.

THE
WYE VALLEY FROM THE AIR
In
this short film, shot in April 2009, you will fly you
over the part of the Wye Valley between Foy Bridge and
Tintern Abbey, taking in the horseshoe bend at Ross, Wilton
Castle, Goodrich Castle, Kerne Bridge, Symonds Yat, Tintern
and its Abbey and finally back to Wilton Castle and over
the town of Ross-on-Wye.
It
is very difficult to hand hold a camera inside a helicopter,
so I apologize for the shaky view at times. I hope this
does not spoil your enjoyment of the beautiful scenery.
Canoeing
on the Wye at Symonds Yat is a popular pastime.
THE DOWARD AND KING ARTHUR'S CAVE IN HD VIDEO
This
short high definition film shows King Arthur's Cave and
some of the surrounding area of the Doward, near Symonds
Yat and the Seven Sisters Rocks.
The view of the river in the film is shot from the Seven
Sisters.
The
music, excluding the 30 second introduction over the narration,
is my own composition and recording. I recorded 'Palaeolithic
Storm' in 1999 but remixed the original instrumental tracks
yesterday for this film. In case you are wondering, the
'caveman' voices are my own voice, reversed and pitch
shifted.
The film
can be watched full screen by clicking the button at the
right hand side of the progress bar. More
HD films covering the Wye Valley and forest of Dean can
