Pictured
below is the beautiful parish church of St. Dubricius, Symonds
Yat, where, following his visit to Whitchurch Primary School,
a service was held in 2004 by the Rt. Revd. Anthony Priddis, Bishop
of Hereford to rededicate the grave enclosure of the Gwillim family.
The Gwillims owned the Old Court, Whitchurch from 1600 to 1868
and were benefactors of St. Dubricius Church. The tomb was built
by Thomas Gwillim whose only grandchild, Elizabeth Posthuma Gwillim
married John G. Simcoe, who is little known in England but actually
became the first Governor of Upper Canada and founder of Toronto.
